Public Fountains of the City of Dijon
translated by Patricia Bobeck Kendall/Hunt Publishing
This is a complete translation of Henry Darcy's Les Fontaines publiques de la ville de Dijon, which he wrote in 1856. It describes the construction of Dijon's water supply system. In an appendix, Darcy describes his experiments on water flow through sand and the empirical law he concluded from the results. This law, which became known as Darcy's law, is the foundation of the science of hydrogeology. The translation makes Darcy now accessible to modern-day scientists. The book also includes 28 plates of engineering drawings that were originally published as a separate volume.
